Die edv-technisch Versierten bzw. Interresierten haben das heimische Wireless LAN selbstverständlich abgesichert. Verwenden sichere Kennwörter für den Rechnerzugang, Mailaccount,… Doch sind diese wirklich sicher? Zumindest bei mir herrschte schon immer das Interresse mich mal mit den einschlägigen Hackertools am eigenen Mailaccount, Rechner, Netzwerk zu versuchen um zu sehen ob man sich nur in Sicherheit wiegt oder wirklich auf der sicheren Seite ist.

Diverse Tools zu diesem Thema findet man auch, sei es für Windows oder Linux, jedoch die richtigen Tools müsste man erstmal finden, und dann vor allem diese Tools für alle unterschiedlichen Bereiche zusammentragen. Das Spektrum der Möglichkeiten ist genau in diesem Bereich sehr breit. Bei mir scheiterte es in mehreren Anläufen an der dafür notwendigen Zeit bzw. der mangelnden Motivation nachdem man sich die erste Nacht damit um die Ohren geschlagen hat.

Aber, vorige Woche bei Heise entdeckt, jetzt ist zumindest die Lösung dieses Problems erfolgt - BackTrack 2 ist hier. Version 2 einer “Security Audition” Linux-Live CD. Gepackt mit all den nötigen Gerätetreibern, gepatcht mit all den Hacks um solche Tools auch anwenden zu können. Ein nettes Forum gibt es auch noch dazu, dumme Fragen wurden dort schon zahlreich gestellt, mit der Suchfunktion lässt sich so ziemlich jede Frage lösen.

Damit sollte man meinen CD rein, booten und sofort kann man also loslegen…? Naaaja. Wenn da jetzt nicht zuviele dieser Tools wären und man sich im Endeffekt erst wieder nur mit ein paar davon auseinander setzt. Aber zumindest in die Welt der Hacker konnte man ein wenig eintauchen, umgleich der Komplexität der Materie wegen dieser Welt bald wieder den Rücken zu kehren.

Trotz allem ein praktisches Tool um mal eben Portscans, OS-Fingerprints, Kennwort Tests und derlei machen zu können. CD rein, Booten und los gehts.

in case you are looking for a imagedatabase that’s free, respectively not expensive in the advanced editions and that feels like you would have written it for yourself (not because it’s bad, but because it has all the features you would put into your own program), go and look for idimager!

this decent programm still has some minor lacks in stability and performance (though no image-database i’ve seen is simething like fast asap it comes to storing meta-information in iptc/xmp tags), but it has some verry nice features.

beside the usual edit & view-features there is a lot of goodies like it’s own script-language, batch renaming with easy customiseable rules and so on.

but the feature i was looking for was to be able to leave my 30k+ images in the filesystem like i am used to have it done before. have views based on the directory structure, plus having the chance to build albums and galleries based on a database, but not having to change anything in the filesystems. and last but not least - put credits, location and keyword meta-information in the pictures. not a properitary database, but iptc/xmp tags. this way i can spent months now to index all the pictures and be sure to do this only once. no matter if i switch to mac, unix or any other standard-conform application. no matter if the software-company goes down, there are no new versions of the program or they get worse like other programs while putting out newer versions. the meta-information is in the pictures and therefore safe for any program/os change.

a very nice side effect are hierarchical keywords, version-stacks and other nice features in this program. definetly worth a closer look if you have some thousand images you want to categorize, rate,… though you should invest some 30 minutes or so to quickly read through the 1st chapters of the manual in order to operate this beast without getting confused by all the features.

this said i’m back into lurking mode. means working at office, beeing tired and beside that taggin’n'ratin’ my pictures. don’t expect news here soon.

oh and forget about politics in austria. our hopefully soon has-been new goverment and and governor… yippieee… gotta take a closer thought about not returning home from one of the next trips to africa…

I’ve put together a Plugin for widgetizing cpmfetch functions for wordpress. CPMFetch is short for Copperminefetch, a php-program that helps pulling data from Coppermine gallery.
While building my new theme i made 3 short widgets which i seperated from the theme and put into it’s own plugin.

Right now CPMFetch Widgets Plugin provides 4 Widgets:

• cpmfbase: provides a simple text-header - this could also be done using a Text-Widget and makes only sense if you use more than one CPMFetch Widget. You can put it above the other CPMFetch Widgets and use it as a common title. Title can be configured using Widget-Administration.
• cpmfrecent: This Widget shows the recently added pictures to your Coppermine gallery. You can configure Title, Thumbnailwidth, Number of Columns/Rows, Linktype and style from the Widget-Administation.
• cpmfrandom: This Widget shows randomly selected pictures from your Coppermine gallery. You can configure Title, Thumbnailwidth, Number of Columns/Rows, Linktype and style from the Widget-Administation.
• cpmfmostviewed: This Widget shows the most viewed pictures to your Coppermine gallery. You can configure Title, Thumbnailwidth, Number of Columns/Rows, Linktype and style from the Widget-Administation.

Feel free to pull CPMFetch Widget and enhance it, i only put the functions inside that i needed for my site. CPMFetch comes with a load of more functions, i think it might be really nice to have a widget that fully supports CoppermineFetch!

Installation:

• Download from blog.stieglmayer.com/downloads/cpmfetch_widget.zip
• Unzip into your wordpress/wp-content/plugins directory
• Go to Administration/Plugins
• Activate the plugin
• Go to Administration/Plugins/CPMFetch Widget Subpage and enter the full path to your cpmfetch-file (e.g. /home/<username>/www/cpmfetch/cpmfetch.php)
• Go to Presentation/Sidebar Widgets and configure the Widgets.

Requirements:

• Installed and working Coppermine Gallery (coppermine.sourceforge.net)
• Installed and working CoppermineFetch Installation (cpmfetch.fistfullofcode.com/projects/copperminefetch/index.php)
• Tested and working with CPMFetch Version 1.9.5 and Coppermine Gallery 1.4.10
